Attend the Parish Event This Week!!!
On Friday, 4-7 P.M. Salem UMC will be hosting a Tailgate Party on their north lawn. Drop in for a little food, fellowship and a cheer or two before the first Bobcat football game of the season. Lawn chairs and food to share are optional AND you don’t have to go to the game to attend.

Parish Safe Sanctuary Training will be held next Sunday, August 30, from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Salem. If you have not yet attended a training session and work with children &/or youth within our parish, please attend.

Your August newsletter contained information regarding monthly automatic withdrawal of your offering. If you’re interested, please fill out the form and return it to Gina Embray. If you need a form, get one from Gina or pick up one on the table outside the office. There is no deadline for this…it can be started at any time.

MISSIONS CORNER:
BENTON CO. next week bring giver’s choice. Collection boxes are located at entryways.

TAMA CO. next week bring canned or packaged meals (mac n cheese, spaghettios, etc.) or your choice to the Elberon church.

Thanksgiving Ingathering will be here before we know it. In Norway, little fleece sweaters have been constructed for missions. Donations are still being taken for the cost of the little gripper snaps. The cost is about $20.00 for 24 sweaters. Contributions are greatly appreciated. These sweaters do not require extra shipping and are credited at $6.00 each.

Also, 25 school kits have been filled with the help of the church youth. The cost of these kits will be $3 plus $2 shipping for each. Your $5 donation will be accepted until Nov.7th. Checks should be made payable to Dorothy Blackburn. Mission credit for these will be $11.00. Purchased kits will be placed near the altar with other Ingathering items to be dedicated on the Sunday before the Ingathering.

COMING EVENTS:
The Elberon United Methodist Church will be celebrating 125 years September 19th-20th.
Festivities will start on Saturday with a parade at 3:00pm, old time games at 4:00pm, Ice Cream social at 5:00pm. and a concert by River's Voice (Richard and Trish Bruxvoort-Colligan) beginning at 6:00pm. Sunday’s activities include a buckwheat breakfast at 8:30am, worship service at 10:30am., lunch at 12:00pm with a program at 1:30pm. Everyone in the parish is invited to attend. RSVP for Sunday’s lunch by calling the church office (228-8364) or send e-mail to peaceump@netins.net by September 10th.

Norway is still collecting money for snaps for the baby sweaters they will send to Ingathering. $20.00 buys snaps for about 24 sweaters. They are working on their second group of 24 at this time.

Norway UMW bazaar is planned for Saturday, October 17, come for crafts, baked goods, produce and lunch. Hours are 11 to 2

Iowa State Fair –goes through next Sunday, August 23. You are encouraged to stop by the United Methodist booth, introduce yourself, have a temporary tattoo applied, and sign up for a free week at one of our Camps, valid in 2010. They will be drawing a name each evening, for a total of 11 gifts of a week at Camp! This is a great way to send our kids to camp next year!

The Food Banks have made a special plea for food items (microwaveable, etc.) that children can prepare themselves and paper products.
In addition to the items above, the Belle Plaine Food Bank has expressed a need for laundry soap and paper products as well.
